Michigan Fine Artist
Kelly Lynne Figueiredo is a Michigan fine artist working primarily in acrylic and acrylic wash. Through animal imagery, she explores leadership, intuition, identity, and the assumptions that shape how we see one another. Her paintings create visual conversations, using posture, gaze, symbolism, and relationships within the composition to give form to ideas that can be difficult to express directly.
Animals offer a compelling language for this work. The qualities people assign to them, including authority, vulnerability, intelligence, and menace, provide a starting point for questioning familiar narratives. Michigan wildlife brings that inquiry closer to home, grounding her practice in the landscape and encounters of everyday life.
Learning to paint changed how Kelly notices the world. Attention to light, tonal value, color, and proportion developed into a broader awareness of relationships and competing perspectives. In the studio, observation meets experimentation. She tests compositions, revises decisions, and searches for visual forms that can carry a thought. Painting provides a reflective space to process experience, exercise invention, and develop a voice through images.
Biography
Following a career of nearly 29 years in local government, Kelly developed a sustained studio practice. Her training includes foundational drawing and painting through East Lansing Parks and Recreation with artist Sharon Griffes Tarr. Her five painting series The Matriarch was exhibited at Grand Rapids City Hall during ArtPrize 2026.
